Almost all cruising boats now have radar on board. The International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea broadly state that if you have a radar you must know how to use it. This Radar Course will give you a good understanding of how the radar works and how to use it.
Radar is probably the most versatile of all electronic navigation aids, but the best results are only obtained when you know how to use all the functions correctly. It is not an all seeing eye, and can easily mislead those who do not understand its controls, allow for its limitations, or interpret its picture correctly.

Complete Breakdown
The RYA Radar Course teaches the theoretical basics, the controls and benefits of operating a radar, with an RYA Certificate being earned at the end of it.
The RYA and the MCA stress the importance of those operating boats with Radar fitted, to know how to use it properly and to do so in all appropriate conditions, not just in fog.
Importantly the Collision Regulations say: Rule 7. Risk of collision. Vessels must use all available means to determine the risk of a collision, including the use of radar (if available) to get early warning of the risk of collision by radar plotting or equivalent systematic observation of detected objects. (e.g. ARPA, AIS).
If you are looking to achieve the Yachtmaster Coastal or Yachtmaster Offshore qualifications you will need basic Radar knowledge. The examiner will likely ask you questions relating to Radar on the day. This course is a good way to prepare and is highly recommended.
Timings - The RYA Radar Course usually starts at 9am and ends around 5pm.

I have recently done two shore based courses. #1 was radar. The instructor was very knowledgeable and made it easy to understand, and ultimately to pass the test. #2 was first aid, done in a classroom at CA House in London. I found this excellent, again the instructor was very knowledgeable and experienced which really helped with anecdotes on real examples - I found this useful for confidence but also pragmatism.
