Thinking about chartering a yacht in Greece, Croatia or Italy next summer? Of course you are... We don't blame you. If you're chartering a boat for the first time or want to berth like a pro to impress family and friends look no further.

Great teaching

Excellent experience. Teaching - great. State of the boat - great. And all round great fun. Would definitely recommend.

Our Med Prep weeks are aimed at helping you get up to speed before you go off on your holiday charter in the Med. If you are chartering for the first time, if you made a meal of things last time, if you are feeling a bit rusty, if your crew are feeling a bit rusty: then this weekend is for you.

A bit of practice coupled with some friendly tips from our instructors will make a huge difference and allow you to moor with still and finesse. Not only maintaining harmony within your crew but impressing those on-lookers.

Sailing somewhere new is always a challenge, this course has been introduced by popular demand to give our customers the skillset to moor in the busiest of European Marinas, and choose the perfect places to anchor without breaking a sweat.

A Little of What We Will Cover

A Little of What We Will Cover

Reversing including dropping the anchoring and reversing.

As you may know, mooring in the Med is often done by dropping the anchor and reversing onto a wall or pontoon, or reversing onto a wall and then taking bow lines (lazy lines) from the wall and walking them forward. It can be tricky, particularly if there is a cross wind! There aren’t any places in the UK where this is done however we can simulate it by reversing up to buoys or the pontoon. You will get lots of practice reversing so you understand the effect of prop kick and prop wash and the importance of getting the boat moving so you can steer in the direction you want.

Anchoring and how to choose an anchorage.

We’ll practice anchoring and get comfortable with how the boat swings when at anchor. If conditions allow we my well spend the night at anchor.

Use of dinghy and outboard

We’ll look at best practice for using the dinghy and outboard helping you to minimise the chances of any mishaps whilst you are on holiday.

We’ll also cover pilotage, use of GPS and chart plotters, eating on board, gas safety, basic engine maintenance, use of heads and holding tanks, the sort of safety briefing you should give your crew and marine etiquette.

Brilliant Fun

First Class Sailing have a name to live up to and I am happy to endorse that it is a standard they consistently achieve. I have undertaken two courses across three weekends including a shore-based theory. The office team have always been prompt with replies and provided helpful information and flexible learning plans. The onboard instructors were knowledgeable and made my experiences brilliant fun. I feel reassured by the professionalism, expertise and safety measures First Class Sailing offer and I intend to use them for the remainder of my marine training.
