Med Prep Weekend -
Complete Breakdown

Med prep Weekend
This course will mainly be focussing on anchoring and how to choose a good spot!
You'll also be looking at lazy lines and stern lines, how and what to tie up.
Here's a taster of what the weekend will likely involve:
• Stern and bows to mooring (Med Mooring)
• Anchoring and how to choose an anchorage
• Use of the tender and outboard
• Pilotage (includes line-of-sight navigation)
• Use of GPS
• Eating on board, gas safety
• Basic engine maintenance
• Use of heads and holding tanks
• Basic Safety briefing and marina etiquette

A Little of What We Will Cover
Reversing including dropping the anchoring and reversing.
As you may know, mooring in the Med is often done by dropping the anchor and reversing onto a wall or pontoon, or reversing onto a wall and then taking bow lines (lazy lines) from the wall and walking them forward. It can be tricky, particularly if there is a cross wind! There aren’t any places in the UK where this is done however we can simulate it by reversing up to buoys or the pontoon. You will get lots of practice reversing so you understand the effect of prop kick and prop wash and the importance of getting the boat moving so you can steer in the direction you want.
Anchoring and how to choose an anchorage.
We’ll practice anchoring and get comfortable with how the boat swings when at anchor. If conditions allow we my well spend the night at anchor.
Use of dinghy and outboard
We’ll look at best practice for using the dinghy and outboard helping you to minimise the chances of any mishaps whilst you are on holiday.
We’ll also cover pilotage, use of GPS and chart plotters, eating on board, gas safety, basic engine maintenance, use of heads and holding tanks, the sort of safety briefing you should give your crew and marine etiquette.

Brilliant Fun
First Class Sailing have a name to live up to and I am happy to endorse that it is a standard they consistently achieve. I have undertaken two courses across three weekends including a shore-based theory. The office team have always been prompt with replies and provided helpful information and flexible learning plans. The onboard instructors were knowledgeable and made my experiences brilliant fun. I feel reassured by the professionalism, expertise and safety measures First Class Sailing offer and I intend to use them for the remainder of my marine training.
