Patient instructor
Great recent overnight milebuilder trip to Weymouth and back with opportunity to skipper the inbound leg, Peter was a superb instructor, he was very patient and happy to teach and offer tips on sailing techniques and sail trim as well as some boat handling practice when we were back in marina. Highly recommend.

Sail to Weymouth, sail outside of the Solent, navigate through the Needles Channel and get some night sailing practice.
There is the opportunity for 2 people to have a go at skippering a passage over 60 nautical miles. If you intend to go for your Yachtmaster Coastal or Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence one day then this will be needed.
Another prerequisite to taking the Yachtmaster Offshore is to have 5 passages over 60nm. So even if you do not wish to have a go at skippering then it will still count as two qualifying passage that can go towards the YMO.

Sail to Weymouth Weekend -
Complete Breakdown

Proposed Itinerary
Depart Southampton on Friday evening for Weymouth, either sail around the back of the Isle of Wight or through the Needles Channel depending on wind and tide.
Arrive Weymouth Saturday afternoon and depart later that evening or Sunday morning depending on the weather and tides. If there is time and the conditions are favourable you may go further west to Lulworth Cove. Arrive back in Southampton late afternoon Sunday 3:00/3:30pm.
The trip is obviously dependent on the weather and the final decision will be made by the instructor. It is unusual that the forecast would prevent this trip. We will sail an alternative program should this happen with every effort to sail a decent length passage elsewhere.
If the conditions don’t allow us to leave the Solent we would look to ensure you get plenty of sailing in the testing conditions that prevent the passage but in safer more sheltered local waters. Unfortunately we are not able to offer a refund or transfer to a later date if the itinerary changes due to the weather conditions.

Trip Information
Accommodation
During your sailing trip you’ll sleep on board the yacht. There’s typically three double cabins and two single berths which provide accommodation for eight people. However, there’s only ever a maximum of 4 students on board, plus the instructor.
You can book a whole boat with up to 5 students.
Sometimes two people have to share the saloon or a cabin. The saloon is a large airy space with the two single berths or a large double. The cabins can have a dividing cloth to separate the space in half. You would never have to share with someone of the opposite sex.
Showers/Facilities
Whilst we do have showers on board the yacht, most nights you can use the hot showers and facilities in a marina.
The only thing not included in the price are mooring fees. It depends on where you end up each night but they are usually about £15 per person for a weekend.

Timings
We ask you to join on the Friday evening between 6-8pm. The joining instructions we will send you prior to your weekend will give you an exact time.
You can expect to get away by 3/3:30pm on the final day of your trip. If you are catching a train we recommend you do not book a ticket in advance as we can’t guarantee you will get away at 3pm on the dot. It could be earlier or a little later.
Location
You weekend sail to Weymouth and back usually starts and finishes in Shamrock Quay, Southampton.
Getting to Shamrock Quay
Shamrock Quay is about an 8 minute taxi ride from Southampton Central Station, or 15 minutes from Southampton Airport if you’re flying in. If you are arriving by car you can park in Shamrock Quay Marina, with 24/7 security.
What Sailors Say About Us

Excellent sailing in challenging conditions.
We set off on a weekend trip with the intention to go to Weymouth and return, but the wind and tide were not on our side. So with the excellent advice of our instructor Richard, we diverted to follow the Round the Island race south of the Isle of Wight and over to Chichester Harbour. This was a great decision, and we had some excellent sailing in challenging conditions.
The crew was of very varied ability and everyone gained experience. Richard was particularly good at knowing when to let the trainees take the initiative, and when to give us gentle guidance.

Brilliant All Round Experience
The website and booking system is intuitive and simple to use. Communication from the team was prompt and the instructions and kit list meant I had everything I could possibly need. The boats are modern and clean and the food is great.
Special mention should go to our instructor Peter who was super knowledgeable, patient and delivered much of the training through asking carefully considered questions giving us the the time and space to make mistakes and figure things out ourselves - in my view the best way to learn.

Instructor really listened
A great couple of days with First Class Sailing, with a really terrific skipper. He really listened and understood what we needed and provided a great combination of challenge and patience. We learned a lot with him, and hope to go back and do more with First Class Sailing.
