These weekends are for beginners only! Join us for a taster weekend of sailing. Arrive on the Saturday morning and cast off into the Solent to explore. There are all sorts of interesting places to sail to. You may well go to Cowes on the Isle of Wight, or to the pretty River Hamble. Yarmouth near the Needles could also be an option.
Saturday night will be spent in a marina at one of these harbours. You will get to sleep on board and most of our yachts have 3 double cabins.
You will be needed to pull some ropes to help sail the boat and you will be welcome to have a go at steering if you want. The idea is that these weekends are fun and for people that have not done any sailing before but always thought they might like to give it a go. So if that is you - just come along and see what it is like.

No previous experience required: These weekends are for complete beginners who are interested in finding our what sailing is like.
Food on board: Breakfast and Lunch is included on both days. Supper on Saturday evening is not included leaving you free to explore and eat ashore.
Wet weather gear included: If it is needed you are welcome to use our wet weather gear. Whether it’s rain or wind, stay comfortable and protected during your outdoor activities with quality gear provided at no additional cost.
Friendly experienced skippers: Our skippers are all instructors. They are friendly, experienced and supportive and will ensure that you have a great introduction into the world of sailing.

Our expert and friendly instructors will guide you through every aspect of what you need to know all while enjoying the stunning coastal scenery. You’ll quickly find yourself feeling at home on the water.
Our Taster Sailing Weekends are not just about learning — they’re about experiencing the joy of being out on the open water. These weekends are tailored to provide a stress-free, safe environment where you can enjoy sailing without any pressure. Timings
You should aim to join the yacht at 9am on a Saturday morning. The joining instructions we will send you prior to your weekend will give you an exact time.
You can expect to get away by 3/3:30pm on the final day of your trip. If you are catching a train we recommend you do not book a ticket in advance as we can’t guarantee you will get away at 3pm on the dot. It could be earlier or a little later.
Location
Your Taster Sailing Weekend will usually start and finish in Shamrock Quay, Southampton.
Getting to Shamrock Quay
Shamrock Quay is about an 8 minute taxi ride from Southampton Central Station, or 15 minutes from Southampton Airport if you’re flying in. If you are arriving by car you can park in Shamrock Quay Marina, with 24/7 security.

I have just completed my Day Skipper course with First Class Sailing and I am so happy that I chose FCS as the experience has been thrilling! I have gone from a relative novice to having the knowledge and confidence to take charge of a boat in a small amount of time.
I did my Comp. Crew along with my wife back in April with Jamie as instructor who was really fantastic. Great guy full of knowledge and very patient with our crew of newbies. We came away delighted with what we had learned (which prepared us for our 2-week sailing holiday in Greece later in the year). I was especially pleased that my wife (who does not willingly put herself forward for such activities) came away purring with delight as she had enjoyed the training weekends so much.

Outstanding course - simply put it was First class!
The booking process was very slick and clear. FCS rang me to discuss my health declaration (due to a disability) and dealt with the conversation very professionally and tactfully.
The vessel was well organised and stocked and as a consequence the crew were able to focus on the training. The instructor was very knowledgeable, professional and had a very good teaching style. He was relaxed and I felt like I was being coached rather than instructed. I was most impressed that the instructor recognised my experience/ knowledge and with First Class sailings support allowed me to jump to the next competency - so impressed with the instructor and FCS.

Good starting point in the journey
It was very instructive and gave a really good starting point in the journey to learn how to sail and get around the sea!
