Work at First Class Sailing

First Class Sailing is a leading Sailing School based in Shamrock Quay, Southampton operating 6 sailing vessels between 10 & 15m. We are looking for a part time Bosun who can look after the needs of our yachts between courses. This is a flexible role than can be adapted for the right person.

Initially 1-2 days per week, with the potential for more over the refit season, if complementary skills are held and as operations ramp up for 2026.

Duties will include:

• General yacht upkeep and presentation
• Engine maintenance including oil changes, oil/fuel filter changes and general fault finding and preventative maintenance
• Rigging checks and minor repairs
• Replacing lines, fenders and servicing deck gear
• Winter works, planning and refits
• Assisting in ensuring yachts are kept up to coding standards and safety equipment is in date
• Liaising with office operations to order parts
• Helping prepare yachts for courses, trips and events
• Liaising with skippers and office staff when needed

About You - Ideal applicants should have:

• Practical maintenance and marine experience
• including knowledge of marine engines, yacht systems, AC/DC electrics, rigging and sails, GRP repairs
• Good DIY / hands-on skills
• An eye for detail and high standards
• Ability to work independently and use initiative
• Reliability and flexibility
• Sailing knowledge helpful, but not essential
• Driving licence useful

Hours

Part-time and flexible. This could suit someone semi-retired, freelance, or looking for additional work around other commitments.

Location

Based mainly at Shamrock Quay, Southampton.

Pay

Competitive hourly rate depending on experience.
