Sail to Poole and back in a weekend -
Complete Breakdown fb

Golden Vanity was built in 1908 for a marine artist. On deck she is as she was over a century ago. Below decks she has all the modcons that you would associate with a modern yacht.

There are no winches. Traditional methods are used to raise and lower the sails, of which there are 5 that can be flown at any one time. None of the ropes are colour co-ordinated, none of them are labelled! Our experienced skipper and mate will quickly help you to get the hang of things though.

Proposed Itinerary

Proposed Itinerary

Depart Southampton on Friday evening or Saturday morning depending on the wind and tide for Poole and sail out through the Needles Channel.

Arrive in Poole late in the day on Saturday afternoon and depart later that evening or Sunday morning again it depends on the weather and tides. If there is time and the conditions are favourable you may go further west to Lulworth Cove. Arrive back in Southampton late afternoon on Sunday.

The trip is obviously dependent on the weather and the final decision will be made by the instructor. It is unusual that the forecast would prevent this trip. We will offer an alternative program should this happen with every effort to sail a decent length passage elsewhere.

If the conditions don’t allow us to leave the Solent we would look to ensure you get plenty of sailing in the testing conditions that prevent the passage but in safer more sheltered local waters.  The great thing about Golden Vanity is that she is a thoroughly sea worthy boat.
